An Efficient Algorithm for Computing Robust Minimum Capacity s-t Cuts

چکیده
The Minimum Capacity s-t Cut Problem (Min Cut) is an intensively studied problem in combinatorial optimization. In this paper, we study Min Cut when arc capacities are uncertain but known to exist in pre-specified intervals. This framework can be used to model many real-world applications of Min Cut under data uncertainty such as in open-pit mining or scheduling jobs on two processors. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm for computing minimum capacity s-t cuts under a polyhedral model of robustness. Our algorithm builds on the idea of the general algorithm of Bertsimas and Sim for solving robust combinatorial optimization problems (RobuCOPs). We demonstrate that our algorithm is fast when compared to a naive algorithm that uses a black-box maximum flow solver as a subroutine. Specifically, we demonstrate that our implementation can solve instances of the robust minimum s-t cut problem in seconds whereas an implementation using a black-box maximum flow solver would take hours.

Targets and objects registration and tracking in a sequence of images play an important role in various areas. One of the methods in image registration is feature-based algorithm which is accomplished in two steps. The first step includes finding features of sensed and reference images. In this step, a scale space is used to reduce the sensitivity of detected features to the scale changes. Afterw...
متن کاملAerodynamic Design Optimization Using Genetic Algorithm (RESEARCH NOTE)
An efficient formulation for the robust shape optimization of aerodynamic objects is introduced in this paper. The formulation has three essential features. First, an Euler solver based on a second-order Godunov scheme is used for the flow calculations. Second, a genetic algorithm with binary number encoding is implemented for the optimization procedure. The third ingredient of the procedure is...
متن کاملComputing Exact Minimum Cuts Without Knowing the Graph
We give query-efficient algorithms for the global min-cut and the s-t cut problem in unweighted, undirected graphs. Our oracle model is inspired by the submodular function minimization problem: on query S ⊂ V , the oracle returns the size of the cut between S and V \ S. We provide algorithms computing an exact minimum s-t cut in G with Õ(n5/3) queries, and computing an exact global minimum cut ...
متن کاملOptimal Coding Subgraph Selection under Survivability Constraint
Nowadays communication networks have become an essential and inevitable part of human life. Hence, there is an ever-increasing need for expanding bandwidth, decreasing delay and data transfer costs. These needs necessitate the efficient use of network facilities. Network coding is a new paradigm that allows the intermediate nodes in a network to create new packets by combining the packets recei...
متن کاملComputing Maximum Mean Cuts
Most primal minimum cost network flow (MCNF) algorithms can be seen as variants on cancelling negative augmenting cycles. The analogous view of dual MCNF algorithms is that they cancel positive augmenting cuts. In a companion paper we show that if a dual algorithm chooses to cancel cuts which have the greatest rate of increase in dual objective value per arc, which are called maximum mean cuts,...
